I’ve been writing songs since I was little, and it’s the thing that makes me feel most alive. Ever since I can remember, all I’ve known was making music, learning music, playing piano, and writing songs. Looking back, I realize I couldn’t have been anything other than a musician —it fits my personality and my life path perfectly
I started piano at age 6, and by 8 I was accepted into a conservatory to study classical music in Istanbul. By 11-12, I had begun writing my own songs. Even before I formally started music, I was duetting with the sounds of vacuum cleaners, car engines, and airplanes. As a little kid, I used to jump on my bed imagining I was singing to hundreds of people. I guess it was a clue that I had what it takes to do this from the start. Life and the soul somehow guide you toward what you’re meant to create.
Once I started writing my own music, I recorded it in a sony voice recorder (that is still surprisingly working) and then in high school I recorded them with GarageBand. I’ve always dreamed of recording professionally and sharing my songs with hundreds of people. Since then, I’ve been chasing that mission, trying to release as many songs as I can.
I love following the inspiration that comes in the moment when I first write a song. Most of the time, I like bringing things out in an impulsive, improvised way, enabling happy accidents to happen. I think I kept all the mistakes I have made while writing, they are the best thing that can happen to a song. Sometimes when overthinking takes over, I hate what I am writing. There are many times I fight with myself while birthing the song too. Instead of deciding exactly where it should go, I like it when I let the song guide me. Of course, as I’ve grown older it’s harder to keep my mind taking over, but every day it’s a chance for me to practice being imperfect and just to play again.
I want my songs to be like my little diary entries, reflecting different periods of my life and leaving something behind in time. My goal is to keep adding more of these musical diary entries. I hope you enjoy reading my diary, experience together with me and also hope that my songs accompany you in your own life journey.
